Marcy McMillan, marketing & events coordinator for YU-card, Food and Parking Services, is a recipient of the award that recognizes public relations professionals across Canada.

Judges weighed the nominees’ efforts, accomplishments and impact and selected 30 award recipients based on industry accomplishments; community and professional leadership; media relations; compelling stories about the individual; and number of nominations each candidate received.

While McMillan is also engaged in professional activities and development outside of York, it is worth noting that the majority of recipients of this award work for PR agencies.

McMillan has made tremendous contributions to the YU-card, Food and Parking Services, and CSBO since joining York University almost two years ago.

She spearheaded the development and execution of marketing communications initiatives and events that have been critical to YU-card, Food and Parking Services achieving department objectives including increased student engagement.

Her energy, dedication, and collaborative approach have not only made her an absolute asset to the York U team but also led YU-card to receive the 2016 Marketing Excellence Award from the National Association of Campus Card Users in San Francisco this past April.

Outside of York U, McMillan has launched her freelance PR career working on local projects and with small businesses across Toronto. Her roster includes everything from communications strategy, content creation, social media management, to volunteering on the PR team for clients such as Social Media Week Toronto. She also advises and speaks to undergraduate and post graduate marketing and PR classes.

The first few years of McMillan’s career have been full of accomplishments and experiences that have put her on the trajectory to continue to progress in the communications sector. She is continuously developing and constantly growing as communications professional and at York U.
