Alternative Campus Tour gives Jane’s Walk participants inside story

York Tipi

It is time for Jane’s Walk again!

As in previous years, the Alternative Campus Tour will join the Jane walkers. Learn more about what goes on at the University through the rarely told stories of York, present and past, delivered by professors and students. The Alternative Campus Tour offers an opportunity to get an insider perspective behind the buildings, events, struggles and triumphs that have happened on the grounds of York University’s Keele campus.

The Alternative Campus Tour will take place Friday, May 1, from 1 to 4pm. The starting point is the fountain in front of Vari Hall.

Some of the stops are true and tested, like Vari Hall, the Ross Building and the Health, Nursing & Environmental Studies Building’s native plant garden, but walkers will also visit relatively new places. Some of the newer stops will include the Tipi in the Osgoode Woodlot, the Parsons site (which houses an old Wendat Village), the Black Creek Parklands (and the infamous “tunnel” headlined in the national press), and the picket line at Shoreham Dr.

Visit the Alternative Campus Tour website for more information and the Jane’s Walk website for more details about the tour.

Listen, observe and look for conflicts, contests and different stories at these sites. Guides for the walk will include Peter Brogan, Suzanne Carte, Jen Cypher, Michael Classens, Meaghan Eastwood, Jenny Foster, Jon Johnson, Michaela McMahon, Anders Sandberg, Tor Sandberg, Lorna Schwartzentruber, Martha Stiegman, Jesse Thistle, and perhaps some more.

After the walk, there will be a little party with refreshments. To plan for it, tour organizers are asking walkers to let them know if they’re coming by completing the online registration form at: https://fes.yorku.ca/alternativecampustour.
