York University President and Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri has issued the following statement:

I am pleased to announce that CUPE 3903 Unit 2, York University’s union representing contract faculty, has ratified the University’s settlement offer at their vote Monday evening. At the same time, we are disappointed that members of CUPE 3903 Unit 1 (teaching assistants) and Unit 3 (graduate assistants) did not ratify the University’s settlement offers.

With this outcome, in which contract faculty are no longer on strike, the University is reviewing plans to allow as many students as possible to return to their studies in order to complete their terms. Students can expect to receive more detailed updates once the Senate Executive meets today and has made its decision as to the schedule of programs that will be resuming. For Tuesday, March 10, classes previously suspended remain so.

We will be in contact with the mediator to discuss next steps in negotiations with Units 1 and 3.
