Study recruiting participants for pre-diabetes study

Chip Rowan, a PhD candidate in York’s School of Kinesiology and Health Science in the Faculty of Health, and his research team are currently looking to recruit about 50 people – York staff and faculty – for a pre-diabetes study, Diabetes Prevention Program for York Faculty/Staff.

The study will involve a free three-month physical activity program on campus supervised by qualified exercise professionals/personal trainers. It will be about three times a week.

Men and women, age 30 to 65, who don’t already have Type 2 diabetes, are not currently involved in a structured physical activity program and are not taking mediation to lower their blood sugar are eligible.

Participants will have a free assessment done of their diabetes risk and will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. Fitness data and blood samples will be collected at the beginning and following the three months of participation.
