Former part-time employees may be eligible for a retroactive Pay Equity Payment

York University and the York University Staff Association (YUSA) reached an agreement on a Pay Equity Plan in compliance with the Pay Equity Act for the YUSA Unit 2 group, on Aug. 19, 2013.

Individuals who were employed by York University in a part-time capacity between 1998 and 2012, and classified as YUSA Unit 2, may be eligible for a retroactive Pay Equity payment. In order to achieve Pay Equity for the employees in the YUSA Unit 2 group, the employer and YUSA jointly developed a gender neutral comparison system based on the criteria of skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions to determine the value of work performed in this group.

While the act only requires that jobs identified as predominantly female are eligible for adjustment if they are found to be under-compensated when compared to a male job of comparable value, the parties agreed to apply a pay equity adjustment to all employees in order to also achieve internal equity.
