The York University Student Centre will host an art showcase to present the commissioned murals by the winners of last year’s student mural contest.

Come out and see the final products on Thursday, Sept, 12, from 2pm to 4pm in the Student Centre lobby.

The 13 completed works of art have been installed in the Student Centre’s food court mezzanine, meeting rooms and in the east and west student lounges on the Keele campus. The winners include Claire Scott, whose winning JoyWongStudentMuralwork is above.

Suggested themes for the Site Specific Mural Art Commissions included, student life, diversity, activism, social rights and reclaiming the Common. The jury was comprised of visual arts faculty members, visual arts undergraduate and graduate students and representatives of the Student Centre.

The 13 pieces were completed using a variety of medians, such as paint, photo ink-jet prints on canvas, digital prints and mixed media. The work will be displayed for a minimum of two years.

Are you a visual artist? The showcase on Thursday will also mark the launch of the Student Mural Contest for the upcoming year.
