Faculty of Education dean among top experts in EdTech and eLearning

Professor Ron Owston, dean of the Faculty of Education at York University, has been named one of the top 100 experts in EdTech and eLearning by the website BestCollegeRankings.org. The full list of experts is available here. Owston is the former director of York University’s Institute for Research in Learning Technologies. Best College Rankings built the list as a resource for individuals interested in learning more about online learning and education.

Owston has spoken at numerous national and international conferences. He has also published in a variety of fields, including technology in education, program evaluation and teacher development, in journals such as Educational Researcher, Teachers College Record, Research in the Teaching of English, Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, Journal of Information Technology in Teacher Education, Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, Internet & Higher Education and the Journal of Research on Computing in Education.

His recent projects include: external evaluator for the ABEL/Learning Connections online teacher community, a study on games to support literacy at Grade 4, and an evaluation of Moodle use and lecture capture in large undergraduate courses in York’s Faculty of Health. Currently, he is evaluating blended learning courses at York and collaborating with the Inclusive Design Institute, a project aimed at increasing the accessibility and usability of academic software. In this project, he is leading the development of the Open Virtual Usability Lab, an open-source application for remote accessibility and usability testing.
