Red & White Day is March 26. Show your York spirit!

Mascot_revYork University has a community spirit that is second to none. On March 26, York University celebrates its 54th birthday and to celebrate, everyone is invited to wear red and white, or York gear. There will be a spirit rally, free cake, swag and a free student spirit breakfast hosted by the York Federation of Students.

“In wearing our colours, we are showing our pride and passion for our University. As our visual identity, our colours help unite our incredibly diverse community of 65,000. I hope I can count on all of you to join us on Red and White Day and show your support for York University!” says York’s President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri.

Lots of fun events have been planned:

  • There will be a free breakfast for students. Drop by Vari Hall between 9 and 11am and start the day off right. The breakfast is hosted by the York Federation of Students (YFS).
  • There will be a YorkU Campus Alumni Breakfast,  from 8:30 to 10:30 am, for all grads working on campus. Click here to register. 
  • What’s a birthday without cake and party favours? From 10am to 3pm there will be free cupcakes and swag in Vari Hall, the Student Centre, East Bear Pit and the Glendon Cafeteria.
  • The great Food Truck Event returns. Dine on some delicious food from Smokie’s Poutinerie, Toasty Zappi, Pretty Sweet and Food Dudes on Campus Walk (North of the Student Centre on the Keele campus) from 11am to 3pm.
  • A Spirit Rally will take place in the Student Centre at 12pm to honour York’s athletes and celebrate their achievements.
  • Red & White Bingo Night hosted by YFS  returns to the Underground starting at 7pm.

There will be lots of “spirited” food deals with discounts across the University. To learn more, visit the Red & White Deals webpage. The York University Bookstore (Keele and Glendon locations) will be selling all red and white giftware and clothing as well as all general interest and sale books, CDs and DVDs at 25 per cent off regular priced merchandise. The Pride Shop in Tait McKenzie will have discounted York Lions merchandise, including a $10 York Lions t-shirt, on sale now until March 26. selected items at 10 per cent off.

There will be a Red & White Day photo competition. Submit a photo showing your York U spirit for a chance to win some great prizes. Photos should be in one of the following categories:

  • Best Class Spirit
  • Student/Student Group
  • Faculty or Staff unit
