Talk looks at sustainable development and poverty alleviation

Avanz Capital co-founder Hany Assaad will talk about financing inclusive business for sustainable development and poverty alleviation at the joint Sustainable Value Creation HanyAssaadSpeaker Series.

The talk will take place Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 7 to 8pm, at W256, Seymour Schulich Building, Keele campus. It is sponsored by the Institute for Research and Innovation in Sustainability (IRIS) and Kevin McKague of the Schulich School of Business and his MGMT 6500 Sustainable Value Creation course (Business Model Innovation for Poverty Alleviation), which is cross-listed by both the Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business and the Nonprofit Management Leadership specializations at the Schulich School of Business.

Assaad, chief portfolio, risk & compliance officer, manages the sourcing, screening and negotiating of investments, as well as risk management at Avanz Capital. He is a senior investment and finance professional with over 26 years of experience. He served as CIO in IFC’s Private Equity Funds Group and as investment manager for IFC’s sector-specific funds, such as clean energy, extractive industries, infrastructure and health care.

He has held various positions across IFC with regional responsibilities in companies, financial institutions and funds covering the Middle East & North Africa, South & Southeast Asia and emerging Europe, with transactional experience in Latin America and Africa.
